Before starting their new life in the other world, the deceased had to appear before the court of Osiris. Here their souls were weighed on a pair of scales.\par

ce they had been judged, the souls of the dead could begin their life in the other world, which the Egyptians believed to be located in the sky. Here they would be able to lead a life exactly like that on earth.\par
During the day, souls could also retu
rn to their tombs and eat the offerings that were deposited there, but when night fell they had to go back to the kingdom of the dead.
